Foursys Newsletter - August 2008

Welcome to the August edition of the Foursys Newsletter. We hope you will find this Newsletter useful and any feedback is welcome. The idea is to keep customers up to date with news from Foursys and our key suppliers Sophos, Websense, Clearswift and Celestix.

Technical team at Foursys doubles in size

Foursys is doubling the size of its technical support and professional services team this year. 

In the last year the company has now moved towards an increasing focus on added value services and we have seen a fourfold increase in our services sales in just 1 year. To keep up with demand we took the decision earlier this year to double the number of technical staff focussed on technical support, implementation, training courses and also security tests, such as penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.

The demand from Foursys customers, both existing customers and new ones, has been that they needed a reliable supplier that could deliver more than just a product licence. Giving good product advice is important and basic but customers often need more than that. Organisations of all sizes are increasingly concerned about threats that come from the web and email and can reach users desktops and servers. They recognise that their IT administrators need help in turning what can be an excellent product from a vendor such as Sophos, Websense, Clearswift, Celestix or Microsoft ISA into a secure solution that meets their business needs. That often means onsite or Webex help is needed or a higher level of support than is standard is required.

Customers may also want an independent test of their overall security through a vulnerability assessment or a more comprehensive penetration test with detailed recommendations on how users can increase their security. For more information see Security Tests

Foursys is now positioned to be such a provider.

 

Sophos promotions for customers - free software and appliances!

Sophos and Foursys are running 5 new promotions from now until December 2008 both for existing customers and those new to Sophos and here they are:

1. Sophos SAV customers - Free Endpoint software months - if you renew your licence at least 3 months before expiry for 2 years or more and upgrade from SAV to Endpoint then you get free months added. For example, you renew for 2 years and get 2 free months and so only pay for 22 months. Or you renew for 3 years and get 3 free months and so only pay for 33 months. Or you renew for 5 years and get 5 free months and so only pay for 55 months. That is like having 8% off the price and your licence will still run from the original expiry date so you lose no time on your licence.

2. Sophos SAVI customers - Free Email Appliance - SAVI users who decide to replace their third party solution and upgrade to a Sophos Email Licence which includes protection not only for their mail gateway with an ES Appliance, but also for their email servers (eg PureMessage for Exchange/Domino, etc) will now get a free Email Appliance with their Email Licence. You need to order a minimum 3 year Email Licence and have at least 100 users to qualify for a free ES1000 (RRP of £1850) and at least 500 users for a free ES4000 (RRP of £4995).

3. Sophos Endpoint customers - Buy One Get One Free on Mail or Web Appliances - so if you decide to buy Sophos for both Endpoint and Email Security then you only pay for one ES Email Appliance and you get the second ES free to use for a second site or for failover use. The same applies if you order Sophos Endpoint and Web - your second WS Web Appliance is free. Minimum 3 years licence needed with 100 users or more for a free ES1000/WS1000, or 500 users or more for a free ES4000. And if you order Email and Web and need one of each then you can have the lower priced appliance for free.

4. NEW CUSTOMERS - Free Endpoint software months and/or Free Appliances! - for those who do not use Sophos on the desktop or for email/web protection then you can get a combination of both promotions. You get free Endpoint software to the end of your competitive desktop licence (e.g. McAfee, Symantec, Trend, etc) and a Buy One Get One Free on Appliances. You need to order a minimum 3 year Licence and have at least 100 users to qualify for a free ES1000/WS1000 and at least 500 users for a free ES4000. The free term is up to 6 months on a 2 year licence, up to 12 months on a 3 year licence and up to 18 months on a 5 year licence - you need to show proof of the competitive licence term as your free extra time will match this period.

Foursys Security Workshops in June/July

We ran these at 5 venues around the UK - Abingdon, Belfast, Duxford, Edinburgh and Manchester. And they were our most successful ever with over 200 attendees across the UK. We had 60 come to our Manchester venue but that may be down to the location as Manchester United Football Club has proven very popular in the past with some of our customers! We will be running our next series of UK workshops in October/November 2008, and in between are running NAC workshops for selected customers.

MIMEsweeper Email customers - best to use Software, Edge Server, Appliance or Managed Service?

Clearswift Email customers now have 4 platforms available to protect their networks but 2 of these (Appliance or Managed Services) are proving of real interest to all our customers:

1. MIME Email software - many customers purchased SMTP software years ago and the latest version 5.3 released in July certainly offers much better antispam and content protection with much improved DLP. But with so many policy options the software can be a challenge to maintain and that means you need a good supplier to help you support it. Foursys is now the leading MIMEsweeper supplier in the UK and able to offer a full range of MIMEsweeper Email Services to help all our customers - both Professional Services and Enhanced Support. We now support over 250 customers with over 300,000 licensed users from 50 up to 20,000 user sites.

2. Email Edge Server - if you are a MIME SMTP customer on support then you have free use of the Edge Server - basically this lets you put a simpler version of the MIMEsweeper Appliance software on your own hardware at the edge of your network to stop "the bad stuff getting in". 3. Email Appliance - but for many customers there has never been a better time to look at appliances. From now until the end of 2008 the cost of the Email Appliance can be reduced dramatically because all MIMEsweeper users get a 50% rebate on their licence cost plus any unused maintenance time set against the cost of an Email Appliance.

For example a 250 user MIME software customer with 6 months to run on his maintenance can save over £2300 and reduce the upfront appliance cost to just £1430 including 250 user Appliance hardware, software, updates, Year 1 maintenance and Foursys Enhanced Support.

4. Email Managed Service - for some customers it makes sense to use a managed service.
